VanCAF

I’ll be in Vancouver, B.C. this weekend for the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival (VanCAF)! It’s a wonderful show run by passionate local organizers, and this year it features a gobsmacking 260+ exhibitors in two halls at the Roundhouse Mews in Yaletown. Admission is free (free!) because the show is seriously just that great.

I’ll be at Table E10, right in the front hall by the courtyard. My next-table neighbors include superstar colleagues like Lucy Bellwood, Chris Schweizer, Tony Cliff, and Erika Moen.  I’ll also have Katie Lane of Work Made For Hire by my side.

(Furthermore, note the dangerous proximity to the Japadog truck.)

The show runs from 10-6 on Saturday and 11-5 on Sunday. See you there!

I’m happy to announce that I’m now represented by Barry Goldblatt Literary! Barry has a fantastic reputation and represents some of my favorite creators in children’s, middle grade, YA, and genre literature, so I’m honored to become a part of the agency. Barry maintains a lively presence on Twitter, so if you’re interested in hearing more about his clients and working process, I highly recommend following him.

I’ll continue to manage my self-published and freelance projects, but if you have a publishing inquiry for a new project, please consider sending it through BGL first.

A selection of spring art

I post art on Twitter almost every day; whether it’s a screenshot of a work in progress, a doodle made just for the purpose, or just something I spot in a pile on my drafting table. Here are a few of my favorites from recent weeks!

Spring appearances ahoy!

Created: 13 Mar 2015 / Categories: Appearances

Ah, spring! When an artist’s fancy turns to thoughts of conventions. I’ll be turning up at a number of shows this year, most before the summer hits.

Coming up first is a Special Guest appearance at the Emerald City Comicon in my hometown of Seattle, WA. This is always a wonderful, bustling, diverse convention. Its organizers are savvy, friendly, and genuinely love both creators and fans. I’ll be on the exhibit floor as part of the Periscope Studio bloc at Booth #1214.

I’ve produced a limited-run, 24-page color sketchbook of some of my favorite bits of art from the past year which I’ll have for sale as a convention exclusive – stop by before I sell out! In addition I’ll have copies of all of my books for sale, and some sneak previews of the forthcoming second volume of Family Man.

I’ll also be appearing on the after-screening discussion panel for Stripped, the marvelous comics documentary by my colleagues Dave Kellett and Fred Schroeder. If you haven’t caught this film yet, I really encourage you to attend the screening. It’s funny, snappy, and informative.

Stripped: The Comics Documentary
Room: Hall A (WSCC 611-614)
Date: Friday, March 27th
Time: 6:00PM – 8:00PM

Moderator: Dave Kellett

Guest(s):

Join us for a free screening of Stripped: The Comics Documentary. Featuring the first-ever recorded interview with Bill Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes), as well as interviews with over 40 of the world’s best cartoonists, Stripped is the ultimate love-letter to the comic strip. Then join Director Dave Kellett (Sheldon), along with cartoonists Danielle Corsetto (Girls With Slingshots), Dylan Meconis (Family Man), Brad Guigar (Evil, Inc.) and Kris Straub (Broodhollow) for a talk and audience Q&A.

After Emerald City, I’ll be off to the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival from May 23-24, and then from June 6-7 I’ll be appearing as a Special Guest at Special Edition: NYC, my first New York appearance since approximately forever! More details on those shows as they approach.
