Illustrations ruminating on two mental disorders involving "missing pieces" - autism, and Alzheimer's. I've always been interested in both (and in mental health generally).
They produced some good discussion on what images like these reflect about current opinion on such disorders.
I dislike the "puzzle piece" image often applied to autism - I think the lock says more about the particular kind of isolation and internalism many autistic people experience, and the keys about how many different origin theories and therapeutic techniques are constantly being debated.
Whereas the gradual mental disintegration in Alzheimer's patients reminds me of a jigsaw puzzle being slowly picked to pieces, after once having formed a complete picture.
At any rate, some of my thought process on these two simple pieces.
